Search for Solar Solution Begins with Flow Data

Often, power systems for wellhead equipment can be confusing, especially when it comes to solar options. Don’t rush to procure a solar package, until you’ve weighed all your options. Flow Data can help with that.

Is Your Search for the Right Solution Giving You the Best Option?

We’ve all seen it. Projects run on an accelerated timeline and sometimes equipment purchases are made quickly to meet the needs of production, safety and processes. In the hurry to procure the solar package, the solutions can be overly-complex and expensive, or simply not work as they should.

The Right Answer is Not Always the Popular One

Flow Data recently consulted on a project that added solar power for O2 Analyzers. The client originally requested a system sized for an 80W panel, which was an arbitrary size suggested by the end user’s procurement department.

As part of our standard procedure, Flow Data applied the project’s needs to a solar calculation worksheet, which quickly exposed the 80W panel to have insufficient power to support the load of the O2 Analyzers.

Since the end user had limited engineering resources, they weren’t fully prepared to accurately calculate their power needs. Which is why it’s so important to work with a knowledgeable partner.

The best solution. Not over-engineered. That’s our promise to you.

To demonstrate all options, Flow Data ran multiple scenarios. The key component for the power draw for the O2 Analyzers was the outdoor temperature. The system required 24Vdc power, Area Classification of Class 1 Division 2, and battery boxes. Based on prior experience, the scenario assumed a minimum of no less than three days of autonomy would be sufficient.

The Flow Data model included four scenarios: 80W solar panel, 0 °F, -10 °F, and -20 °F. As mentioned before, eliminating the 80W solar panel, it became evident the -10 °F option was the best solution. This option provided over four days autonomy at the best price point.
